Things you may see in the shadows, are sometimes not shadows. Something or someone may be lurking in there with you. Use your stamina only when needed, and tread carefully. Hiding in crawl spaces, under tables or inside lockers if you see something unusual can be a good idea. Please note: The Backrooms: 1998 is a survival horror game being worked on by one developer, the premise of the game is an “escape room” type of game – where you have to collect clues, find supplies to help you in The Backrooms and try to escape them. It is currently in Early Access and I will try my best to update the game frequently to give you the best enjoyable experience. Please do submit your feedbacks and suggestions as it really helps out with the development!(I often forget that sanity is a mechanic, and this causes me to think some of the effects are actually happening for brief periods of time, and those are the coolest parts of the game for me) Decrease Nuller spawn rates and spawn in more unique enemies instead. Nullers get both boring and annoying after a while, and some of the best scares come from the Party Goers and The Boilers.
SANITY & STABILITY
And, weirdly, those are only other enemies I’ve seen (though I think I’ve witnessed the effects of others. I also saw that sauce kid or whatever) in the 11 hours I’ve played. More enemies, to me, would make the game more scary. Display health on screen. I don’t know why it’s not, but it doesn’t really add anything, unlike hiding sanity. This is basically a hidden gem of a game. Don’t let the graphics deter you – sometimes the graphics even add to the ambiance. This game has some of the best sanity mechanics and note mechanics in any game I’ve ever seen. It’s not perfect, but with more updates to come, this game can only get better. I want to make it clear now, I’m not done with the game, I’m on Level 11, but the game has only gotten better as it went along with few exceptions. As for the developer, if you’re reading this, here’s some of my feedback I want to direct towards you: Don’t change how the sanity meter works, and don’t display it on the hud. It’s perfect the way it is, and I feel like placing it on the hud will take away what makes it work. There are dozens of concepts for levels, entities, and items that could and most likely will be added. Stability is a hidden mechanic that only affects the player when they are in negative levels of the backrooms. As you spend time within the negative levels of the backrooms, your stability will lower, only restoring once you reach a different level. As your stability lowers, your vision will be impaired by glitch effects and your HUD elements will shake. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
The negative effects of low stability can also be triggered by accumulating many artifacts o n a single floor, due to the fact that artifacts increase your maximum stability, but not your current stability. Upon reaching zero stability, you will be sent back to level zero of the backrooms.Your sanity is one of the most important resources in the backrooms. Sanity lowers slowly over time, changing in rate of sanity drain depending on what level you are currently on. Sanity can also be lowered by entities and level events. As your sanity is lowered, the frequency of which dullers spawn increases, your FOV begins to increase, your screen turns red, along with the possibility of hallucinations occurring. If at any point your sanity reaches Zero, you will begin taking damage over time until you restore it. Some aspects of the game are based entirely on these writings, while others are their own concepts spliced in to make the experience much more cohesive. Enter The Backrooms is planned to evolve and update far into the future.Upon reaching zero health you will be sent to the game over screen where you can either return to your previous checkpoint, or return to the main menu. You can restore your health by using Almond Water, or by using a First Aid Kit. Stamina Your stamina dictates how long you can sprint without tiring out, with the standard sprint lasting 5 seconds, however you can increase its duration by 20% by picking up artifacts. Stamina is the only statistic that is shown in the default HUD of the game. Your stamina does not return while walking, instead you must either stand in place or consume sugar in order to restore your stamina. Normally walking is fast enough to outpace any entity, however sprinting is an easy way to lose the entities altogether.
I really like this game but I have some things to say. This game should stick more to the wiki. I have two examples. The smilers and the insanity. The wiki describes them totally differently so I have some Ideas. The smiler would appear at the extremity of the view distance of the player. As the player looks at them, their field of view will become darker and darker until their is just the smiler in the middle of a black screen. At this moment, the smiler will dash towards the player very quickly. Then, the smiler effect that we have now would appear but would stay longer on the screen. I think that as the screen darkens, their should be a ringing noise and a wobbly effect as well as some grain. Also, if the players lights his flashlight on them, they would attack instantly. For the insanity, it wouldn’t use weapons but would look like the ones that are described in the wiki. For their behavior, I don’t know what would be good but they would laught that’s for sure.
The dark “basic” entity that you encounter frequently should make a sound as it chases you. I believe that it needs to be escaped more easily. The deathmoth is perfect. it’s scary, sticks to the wiki and are surprising. The game should be a bit more optimised as well. The game is pretty fun and will gain in popularity my favorite backrooms game on the steam store. stays close to the wiki lore and has the most levels other than 0 unlike the other games and the developer works hard on adding new content routinely. im always excited to see the new content updates. there are bugs like i can’t play full screen very annoying and there’s no way around it. if you expand the window outside of full screen the game gui will just clip off and its not playable. really that’s the only con for me.
